The Continuing Saga of the Short Story of socopro. (or Another interesting mindless blog for the moment: I've sent an OLD friend to the wolves!)
in 1990, I was first exposed to Windows when I assisted with an upgrade to 2.0! It was way kewl, 'cos it came with Corel Paint(Trademark thingy here), and that really unleashed a lot of potential in drawing that lets the now-software-giant-stand-on-it's-mountain-so-tall -today. An Early version of works came out, which gave birth to Office, and gave word processing functionality that let you actually print output from a computer in a way that exceeded business needs for the first time.....and business filled the exceeded margin, for sure.....
At any rate, this was also around the time where the bedrock of antitrust and bundled software and proprietary B.S. Started. This was when software companies worked together a little differently than some do now; some hopped WAY late into the game and stirred up a lot of nonsense. Changed Everything. Damn.
Altavista was top dog in search engines, and infoseek...go came along fine for a bit, too.
Just fresh from the Bulletin Board Days, the internet was still a lot of people establishing web presence with the same mindset: Share info. Sandboxes became popular, which was and still is a place where code-seeking and knowing people get together and code like crazy and come up with new, strange, exciting and downright mind bending programming stunts to publish or give as a tidbit, bite or just plain ol' HERE thing! The Geek came out of the dimly lit shed.
By 92, Windows was rolling an update to 3.0, to 3.11, which gave it Operating System Tied Networking Functionality.
I was working with my Brother in setting up, trouble shooting, selling and installing networks, all the while literally stumbling my way over wires, equipment and life. Working primarily in the office figuring out web page code, I also had a kinda natural knack for computers, for I already had a few years making midi music on PC's, and that took a lotta skill, patience, sweating, swearing and praying...all the while techy minded as cutting edge as possible on the Bulletin Boards to get the right hardware working right......some of you know waddup. I recognize you from the trenches...even CEO's of software Giants....retired guy in his retired office chair....
By '94, I had enough gumption to jump, and bought socopro.com as a media and internet production service, as well kept up with my Networking Chops.....I Love that stuff.
Rising Fortunes and falls from grace to be sure has the Internet in itz own real world feet on the ground sweet poignancy that the actual vision, work, mission and sacrifice it truly represents. How people come together and play in a real world sandbox and share ideas, information and goodies at Consumer Electronics Shows, Conventions, Events and then go do the same in the Virtual One, because of the Virtual One and Feed Generations of their families in Style...
All because of the PC (since the inroduction of IBM's).
About Socopro.com ..I was approached in '98 or so by a French company to buy it. They've persisted, on and on through the years to acquire it....usually nickle and diming me, much to my amusement.
With the expiry eminent and the canceling of the account done; I say in the world it lived in only, Good Bye, old Friend!!!!
I'm certain that whoever snaps it up will keep up itz spirit of service, strength and dependable chops!
